Essay 3 Source Credibility

Works Cited
“The Consequences of Global Warming on Weather Patterns.” Natural Resources Defense
Council: The Earth’s Best Defense.  Natural Resources Defense Council, n.d. Web. 17
            Oct 2010. < http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/fcons/fcons1.asp>.
This is a credible source because the Natural Resources Defense Council is an organization made up of lawyers, scientists, and "policy experts." (http://www.nrdc.org/about/who_we_are.asp) Two major magazines, The New York Times and The National Journal, have said the organization is powerful and credible.  I will keep this source when I am working on my revision.
“Effects on Wildlife and Habitat.” Effects on Wildlife and Habitat. National Wildlife Federation,
          2010.  Web. 17 Oct 2010.  <http://www.nwf.org/Global-Warming/Effects-on-Wildlife-
          and-Habitat.aspx>.
This is a credible sources because the site was published by the National Wildlife Federation, which is "America's largest conservation organization." (http://www.nwf.org/About.aspx) It is also an up-to-date website, so I will keep the source in my essay.
“Global Climate Change.” National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Earth Science
            Communication Team, n.d. Web. 24 Oct 2010. http://climate.nasa.gov/causes/.
This website is credible because the organization is the Natioal Aeronautics and Space Administration.  NASA is well-known and the scientists do their own research by conducting missions.  I will keep this source in my essay revision.
“Global Warming Basics.” Natural Resources Defense Council: The Earth’s Best Defense.
Natural Resources Defense Council, n.d. Web. 25 Oct 2010. http://www.nrdc.org/globalWarming/f101.asp?gclid=CKevpsa08aQCFQY65QodVyNY0Q#1.
This source is part of the same website as the first source on the list, published by the Natural Resources Defense Council.  The experts that are part of the council make the source credible, so I will keep the information.
Heilprin, John. "Fixing the Ozone Hole Slows Efforts on Global Warming." USA Today. The
Associated Press, 20 Aug. 2006. Web. 26 Oct. 2010. http://www.usatoday.com/weather/climate/2006-08-20-ozone-global-warming_x.htm.
Although the information was posted in 2006, I still think this is a credible source because the article was published in USA Today.  The author, John Heilprin used a lot of facts in the article, so I will keep the source.
“Impacts of Global Warming on the Environment.” University Corporation for Atmospheric
Research.  National Science Foundation, 2010. Web. 18 Oct 2010.
The website of the University Corporation for Atmostpheric Research is a credible source because the corporation conducts research and educates the public.  To be a member of UCAR, one has to go to one of the member universities with certain doctoral programs.  I think this source provides good information, so I'm going to keep it when I revise my paper.
Markey, Edward J. “Health.” Issues- Global Warming. The Select Committee on
Energy Independence and Global Warming. n.d.  Web. 16 Oct 2010.
            http://globalwarming.house.gov/issues/globalwarming?id=0006.
This seems to be a credible source because the author, Edward J. Markey, has had a lot of experience being involved in environmental issues, and the other committee members of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming are well educated about the subject as well.  I will keep this source as part of my works cited.
Markey, Edward J. “Science Basics.” The Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global
            Warming.  N.p.,  n.d. Web. 17 Oct 2010.
            http://globalwarming.house.gov/issues/globalwarming?id=0002#main_content.
This source is part of the same website as the source above and has the same author, so it is credible and I will keep it when working on my revision.
“Organization.” IPCC. Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. n.d. Web. 17 2010.
            http://www.ipcc.ch/organization/organization.htm.
The source is credible because the IPCC is a scientific organization and the "leading body for the assessment of climate change." (http://www.ipcc.ch/organization/organization.htm) The IPCC also received the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize.  I will keep this source on my list.
West, Larry. “Leonardo DiCaprio to Produce Documentary on Global Warming.” Environmental
            Issues.  N.p., 2010. Web. 16 Oct 2010.
            http://environment.about.com/od/globalwarming/a/dicaprio.htm.
This probably isn't a credible source because although the quote came from a well-known person, he was quoted on about.com.  The author is a professional writer who has been writing about environmental issues since 2004, but I'm going to try and find the same information from a different, more credible source for my revision.
